Bathing In The Shallows

Freire took a new small body of work to the first ever art fair by Form Falmouth. Form is a new annual festival which celebrates the visual arts heritage and vibrant creative culture of Falmouth. ‘Bathing In The Shallows’ is a collection inspired by Freire’s daily summer swims in the calm shallows of the Cornish waters. The sea has a magnificent pull for Freire especially on the days where all seems hard, the sea is there to put it right. The first full immersion in the cool water to was away negative thoughts or emotions, sunlight bouncing and twinkling off of and through the clarity of the turquoise water. Freire wanted to explore this through the paint, is the light seen from above or below, how does it make on feel? Different shades of turquoise blues and greens overlapping with soft texture spreading across the canvas.
